Heidielise Wirz
Bio
Native Central Coast Californian, Heidi Elise Wirz's most immediate confusion, is to where she feels the most at home. Raised in the heart of the Gavilan Coastal Range, she grew a deep love for the tall pine trees, soft morning fog, and endless rows of vineyard. Paradoxically, the graffiti sidewalks of San Francisco and Oakland served as a sometimes unruly step-mother to this young artist. The pre-dawn quiet and at times empty solitude that comes with an uncomfortable sense of urgency translates itself on to wood board and soft, layered acrylics. The hardships and confusion of Ms. Wirz's life are constant themes, as she grapples with the day to day exploration of herself, her voice and her young motherhood. Sharp as knives, and as comforting as a warm quilt, the characters and odd creatures of her world, are as troubled as she is. Blending gentle fine art, with expressive bold graffiti and sumi inkwork. Ms. Wirz's world of cotton candy pastels and dark damaging beauty draw the viewer into a complex series of nightmares, strange characters, medication (prescribed and otherwise), self-doubt, dispair, and mischief.
Heidi Elise combines her love for acrylic painting with various different forms of printmaking, predominantly woodcut and serigraph. Thus building an extensive body of work for her twenty-four year lifespan. She can credit: Freda Kahlo, Hiroshi, Lee Krasner, Mark Ryden, Max Ernst, Donald McKay, Walt Disney, Lady Pink, Sherm, and Venus as influences. The remainder of her influence comes with the uncertainty,of the nightmare and the daydream.
