About D’Merde Salon
Portland writer Jessica Buck founded D’Merde Salon which is inspired by the influential, absinthe tainted, 1900’s art salons of Paris. Surrounded by an influx of talented Portland artists and writers, Jessica became convinced that Portland is experiencing a new and important art movement called Reflectionalism that doesn’t easily fit the typical structure of galleries and magazines.
Resisting the creative traps inherent in exclusivity, D’Merde Salon welcomes arts and writers of all sorts, valuing diversity, skill, and bravery. D’Merde Salon also requests that artists always chose the work that they want to show their community rather than having someone pick among entries or using a theme. The events are capitalism free, and there are no sales, only refreshment donations. The result has been an unbelievably stellar series of presentations and an equally stellar response from Salon attendees, publishers, press and patrons.
Consciously providing an atmosphere of love and artistic exploration, D’Merde Salon is truly the warmest place in the underground.
