The Guardino Gallery presents:
In the Main Gallery
Chris Haberman’s paintings are filled with a multitude of images, jumbled together with words, objects and figures. The images created are ‘folk-art’ in nature, a spontaneous laying down of bright colors and art materials. The final product is a de-constructed maze of primal figures, surrounded by urban settings and narrative text.
Jennifer Mercede’s primarily abstract paintings consist of free flowing text, bright color fields, and crazy energetic doodling. She uses a playful, distinctive color palette that compliments the obsessive, frenetic line work and imagery of her pieces. This is doodling taken to a high form.
Mario Robert carves and paints his wood constructions and is able to convert simple materials into stunning art pieces. Each piece is an explosive colorful experience that does not end with the kinetic visuals. Mario creates textures carved into the wood an eye to the human touch.
In the Feature Area
Julie Jetton’s photography is a study of pure color and composition. She distills order out of chaos in the urban environment through her compositions. She’s drawn to dilapidated buildings that have been painted and repainted and to basic simplicity of form whether it occurs in living beings or inanimate objects.
Emily Lazar creates sculpture from steel & fabric. Sewing is an act commonly associated with female domesticity. Steel is a medium most commonly associated with masculinity and when juxtaposed provide balance. Her work is about the emotional connections and the relationships and social situations that transpire because of it.
In the Window Gallery
Chuck St. John’s abstract paintings are unusual in that they have a glow about them. This effect is created with the use of stainless steel and pigment and resin. The steel ground gives a great reflectivity and his use of resin & pigments, high color saturation.
